Ceramic tile is the commonly used decorative material; it is made from clay or other inorganic nonmetal material, processed by forming/sintering and such techniques; it is plate or brick ceramic product used for decorating and protecting the building surface and floor. Ceramic tile can be divided into outer surface tile, inner surface tile, floor tile according to the use; and can be divided into glaze tile and non-glaze tile according to the surface.
To make further improvement on standardizing the factory manufacture and product quality, to promote the healthy development of the industry, General Administration of Product Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine made a national supervision sampling inspection for the quality of ceramic tile product; 138 products from 135 enterprises of 11 provinces and municipalities directly under the jurisdiction of Central Government were inspected, 121 past, the sample pass rate is 87.7%. (The 11 provinces and municipalities directly under the jurisdiction of Central Government are Guangdong, Fujian, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Shandong, Hebei, Sichuan, Henan, Jiangxi, and Hubei.)
The result of sampling indicates that the total quality condition of ceramic tile product is good, the sample pass rate of large and middle enterprises both are 100%; but sample pass rate of small enterprises is only 72.5%, there are more problems in product quality.
The main quality problems of this inspection are that the size of products has big deviation; the rate of water absorption is different from the expressed number; the destroy load and the breaking modulus are low; the radioactivity of some products is too high to the standard.
First, radioactivity nuclide was higher than the limit. There were 2 kinds product radioactivity inspection failed in this time. It is stipulated in National Compulsory Standard-GB 6566-2001 “the Radioactivity Nuclide Limit of Building Materials” that, radioactivity of decorative material “Class A” should meet the requirements of that interior radiation exponent ≤ 1.0 and outer radiation exponent ≤ 1.3. The over-scaled radioactivity nuclide of building materials will hurt the health of people.
Secondly, the destroy load and the breaking modulus didn’t meet the standard requirements. There were 4 products failed in destroy load inspection, and 6 products failed in breaking modulus inspection this sampling. The destroy load and the breaking modulus are important technical targets of ceramic tile; products with low destroy load and breaking modulus will be easily cracked, broken and have defect on the surface when use.
Third, the rate of water absorption didn’t up to the standard. There were 4 products which rate of water absorption was different from the expressed number in this sampling, e.g. the expressed rate of water absorption of ceramic tile product is from 6% to 10%, but the actual inspection results of some products were higher than 10%.
Fourth, the deviation of the size didn’t up to the standard. There are 7 products failed this sampling time, their deviation of actual size didn’t up to the standard requirements.
For the problems shown in this inspection, AQSIQ will ask related quality technology supervision departments to strictly deal with the unqualified enterprises in this inspection for product quality in accordance with the laws and regulations, and ask them to correct within a definite time. Meanwhile, AQSIQ has published a name list of products and manufacturers who were well-qualified in this inspection for the consumer to choose. AQSIQ will continue to follow-inspecting this kind of products, and make a trustable and satisfied consumer environment for the customer.
